Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how TALON ("TALON," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you use the TALON website at talonradar.com, the TALON web app, and related services (the "Service"). It also explains the choices and rights you have. Our Terms of Service also apply.
The short version
- We do not sell your personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use it for targeted ads.
- Your precise location stays on your device by default. We use it only when you allow it, to show weather where you are. We do not store your GPS location on our servers unless you choose to use a feature that needs it.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- You can access, correct, delete, or export your data, wherever you live. Email legal@talonradar.com.

1. Information we collect
You can use TALON's free radar without creating an account. What we collect depends on which features you use.
1.1 Information you give us
- Account information. When you create an account: your email address, your username, an optional display name, and your sign-in method. If you sign in with a third-party provider (such as Google), we receive the basic profile information that provider shares with your permission, such as your name and email. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are never stored by us in readable form.
- Subscription and payment information. When you subscribe to TALON Pro, Stripe collects your payment details. We receive limited information from Stripe, such as your subscription plan and status, billing country and postal code, the card brand, last four digits and expiration date, and transaction history. We do not receive your full card number.
- Communications. When you contact us, the content of your message, your contact details, and any attachments.
- Content you submit. If current or future features let you submit storm reports, photos, comments, profile details, or similar content, we collect that content and any information it contains.
- Preferences. Settings you choose, such as layers, theme, map style, and alert preferences. Most of these stay on your device (see Section 6).
1.2 Information collected automatically
- Device and connection data. IP address, browser and operating system type and version, device type, language, referring page, and the date and time of requests. Our hosting provider records this in standard server logs.
- Usage data. Which pages and features are used, how often, and for how long, along with performance and error information that helps us find and fix problems. We use this in aggregate to understand and improve the Service.
- Approximate location. A general location (such as city or region) that can be inferred from your IP address.
1.3 Information from others
We receive information from our service providers (such as our authentication provider and Stripe) as described above. The weather data the Service displays comes from public and third-party sources and is not information about you.
2. Location information
Location is central to a weather app, so we want to be specific.
- Precise location (GPS) is optional and requires your permission. TALON asks for your device's location only when you use a feature that needs it, such as "My location," local alerts, or Chase mode, and only through your browser's or device's permission prompt. You can deny or revoke this at any time in your browser or device settings, and you can search for a place instead.
- We keep your location on your device by default. Your last-used location is saved in your browser's local storage so TALON opens where you were. We do not store your precise location history on our servers.
- How location is used to fetch weather. To show conditions, forecasts, warnings, place names, and search results for a spot, your device sends the coordinates of that spot (or your search text) directly to the weather, mapping, and geocoding services that provide the data. Those services receive the coordinates and your IP address, as any website you load would, and handle them under their own privacy policies. We do not send them your name, email, or account information.
- Chase mode. While Chase mode is on, your device uses your live GPS position, speed, and heading to show your position relative to storms and keeps a trail of your path on screen. This happens on your device. If we add features that let you share your location with other users, they will be off by default, clearly labeled, and used only if you turn them on, and you will be able to turn them off at any time.
Some U.S. state laws treat precise geolocation as "sensitive" personal information. We process it only with your consent and only to provide the features you request.
3. How we use information
- To provide the Service: show radar, conditions, forecasts, and alerts for the places you choose; run features you turn on; and remember your settings.
- To manage accounts and subscriptions: create and secure your account, display your username, process payments, provide Pro access, and send receipts, renewal reminders, and other transactional messages.
- To send alerts you request: deliver notifications you turned on.
- To support you: respond to questions, requests, and feedback.
- To improve the Service: understand how features are used, measure performance, and fix bugs, using aggregated or de-identified information where we can.
- For safety, security, and integrity: detect and prevent fraud, abuse, account sharing, scraping, and security incidents, and enforce our Terms.
- For legal reasons: comply with laws, legal process, and tax and accounting obligations, and protect our rights and the rights of others.
- To communicate with you: send service announcements and, if you opt in, news about TALON. You can unsubscribe from marketing email at any time.
We do not use your personal information to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you based solely on automated processing. We do not use your personal information to train third-party artificial-intelligence models.
4. How we disclose information
We disclose personal information only as described here:
- Service providers. Companies that process information on our behalf under contracts that limit how they can use it, including our website hosting and content delivery provider, our authentication and database provider, our payment processor (Stripe), email delivery providers, and customer support and error-monitoring tools.
- Data providers you connect to directly. As explained in Section 2, your device contacts public and third-party weather, map, geocoding, and lightning data providers to load the content you view. They receive standard request information (such as your IP address and the area being viewed) but not your account information.
- Other users. Your username, and any content or profile information you choose to make public, may be visible to other users.
- Legal and safety. When we believe in good faith it is required by law, subpoena, or court order, or necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of TALON, our users, or others, including to investigate fraud or security issues. Where permitted, we will try to notify you before disclosing your information in response to legal process.
- Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of all or part of our business, subject to this policy's protections.
- With your consent or at your direction.
We may share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you. Where we de-identify data, we take reasonable measures to keep it de-identified and do not try to re-identify it.
5. No sale, sharing, or targeted ads
We do not sell personal information, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under U.S. state privacy laws. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or trackers, and we do not use personal information for targeted advertising or profiling. We have not done so in the past 12 months. If this ever changes, we will update this policy first and give you a way to opt out before it happens.
6. Local storage, cookies, and similar technologies
- Local storage. TALON saves your settings (such as layers, theme, map style, and last-used location) in your browser's local storage so they persist between visits. This data stays on your device. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings.
- Offline cache. TALON uses a service worker to store app files, map data, and recent radar images on your device so the app opens quickly and works on a weak signal. This cache contains weather and map data, not personal information, and old data is removed automatically.
- Sign-in and payment. When you sign in, our authentication provider stores a secure token on your device to keep you signed in. During checkout, Stripe may use cookies and similar technologies for fraud prevention and to process your payment, under Stripe's privacy policy.
- No advertising trackers. We do not use advertising cookies, third-party advertising pixels, or cross-site tracking.
- Global Privacy Control. We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) and similar browser opt-out preference signals as a valid request to opt out of any sale, sharing, or targeted advertising, for your browser and, if you are signed in, for your account. Because we do not use cross-site tracking, there is also nothing for a "Do Not Track" signal to turn off.
7. How long we keep information
| Information | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Account information and username | While your account is open. Deleted within 30 days after you delete your account, except as noted below. |
| Subscription and transaction records | As long as needed for tax, accounting, and legal obligations, generally up to 7 years after the transaction. |
| Support communications | Up to 2 years after your request is resolved. |
| Server logs and security records | Generally up to 90 days, longer if needed to investigate a security incident or abuse. |
| Usage and performance data | Up to 24 months, or in aggregated or de-identified form without a fixed limit. |
| Settings and location stored on your device | Until you clear them in your browser or device. We do not control this data. |
We may keep information longer when the law requires it, to resolve disputes, or to enforce our agreements. Backups are overwritten on a regular cycle.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls, and reputable service providers with strong security programs. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password and keep your sign-in credentials safe. If we learn of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you and the authorities as required by law.
9. Your choices
- Location: allow, deny, or revoke location access in your browser or device settings at any time.
- Notifications: turn alerts on or off in TALON or in your browser or device settings.
- Local data: clear TALON's stored settings and cache through your browser's site settings.
- Email: unsubscribe from marketing email using the link in any message. We will still send transactional messages about your account and subscription.
- Account: update your account details, or delete your account, in your account settings or by emailing legal@talonradar.com. If you have an active TALON Pro subscription, cancel it before deleting your account.
10. U.S. state privacy rights
Depending on where you live, state laws (including those of Texas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Utah, and Virginia) give you rights over your personal information. We extend these rights to all our users, wherever they live in the United States, subject to verification and legal exceptions:
- Know and access: confirm whether we process your personal information and get a copy of it.
- Correct: correct inaccurate personal information.
- Delete: delete personal information you gave us or that we hold about you.
- Portability: get your personal information in a portable, readily usable format.
- Opt out: opt out of the sale of personal information, targeted advertising, and profiling for significant decisions. (We do none of these.)
- Limit sensitive data: withdraw consent to, or limit, our use of sensitive personal information, such as precise geolocation.
- Know third parties: where your state provides it, get a list of the categories of third parties (or specific third parties) to which we have disclosed personal information.
- Non-discrimination: we will not deny you service, charge you a different price, or give you a lower quality of service for exercising your rights.
How to make a request
Email legal@talonradar.com with the subject "Privacy Request" and tell us what you would like us to do. We will verify your identity, usually by confirming control of the email address on your account, and may ask for more information if needed. We will respond within 45 days, and if we need more time (up to another 45 days, where the law allows), we will tell you why. You may use an authorized agent to make a request for you. We may ask for proof of the agent's authority and verify your identity directly. Requests are free, up to twice a year.
Appeals
If we decline your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision or emailing legal@talonradar.com with the subject "Privacy Appeal" within a reasonable time. We will respond in writing within 60 days (or the period your state's law requires) and explain our decision. If your appeal is denied, you may contact your state attorney general. Texas residents can file a complaint with the Texas Attorney General.
11. California notice
This section supplements the rest of this policy for California residents, as required by the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA). In the past 12 months we have collected the following categories of personal information, from the sources and for the purposes described in Sections 1 through 3, and disclosed them for business purposes to the categories of recipients in Section 4:
| Category | Examples | Disclosed for a business purpose to |
|---|---|---|
| Identifiers | Email, username, IP address, account ID | Hosting, authentication, payment, email, and support providers |

We do not sell or share personal information, and we have no actual knowledge of selling or sharing the personal information of consumers under 16. We use sensitive personal information only for purposes permitted by the CCPA, such as providing the Service you request, so no "Limit the Use of My Sensitive Personal Information" link is required. We keep each category for the periods in Section 7. Shine the Light: we do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.
12. Users outside the U.S.
TALON is operated from the United States, and your information will be processed in the United States, which may have data protection laws different from those where you live. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland:
- Controller. TALON is the controller of your personal information.
- Legal bases. We process your information to perform our contract with you (providing the Service and subscriptions), based on your consent (precise location, notifications, and marketing email, which you can withdraw at any time), for our legitimate interests (securing and improving the Service and preventing abuse, balanced against your rights), and to comply with legal obligations.
- Your rights. You may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, and object to processing, and withdraw consent at any time. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
- Transfers. When we transfer personal information outside your region, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK Addendum, or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework where our providers participate in it.
13. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verified parental consent, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us at legal@talonradar.com. Users between 13 and 18 may use the Service only with a parent's or guardian's involvement, as described in our Terms, and we do not sell or share their personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here with a new "Last updated" date. If we make material changes, we will notify you in advance through the Service or by email, and where the law requires, we will ask for your consent before applying them to information we already hold.
